On May 27, 2011 Pennsylvania prosecutors charged two lawyers, a Kansas couple, and a Pennsylvania woman with a scheme to pay the woman to let the couple adopt her infant daughter. The woman denies all wrong doing in the case as does the attorneys for the couple.
While the overwhelming majority of adoptions are completed legally, there are unfortunately persons on all sides of the issue who may seek to take advantage of an unsuspecting couple or prospective birth mother.
Are you are an adoptive parent, birthparent or adoption professional who has come across suspicious situations or has advice to share? Please comment here so that others can potentially avoid being taken advantage of.
